Maurice
Narrative Illustration
in-book illustrations
The illustrations highlight Forster’s symbolic play with light in regards to the character’s
journey of self-discovery.
The book starts off with uncertainty and a narrow view on masculinity, fact suggested in the overwhelming and symbolic mass of clouds. However, as Maurice’s journey starts, light begins to find its way, either in a secretive manner or only on the characters that acknowledge it (in this case, Maurice himself).
